Design for Fintech

It designs the three places a user decides whether to trust you with money: the brand, the product and the website. The difference from a general agency is where the thinking starts. We begin with what the user risks at each step and what the regulator requires there, then design the interface around both. Teams that need all three at once work with us as a design partner.

The cost of a confusing screen. In a normal app it's a support ticket. In fintech it's an abandoned deposit, a failed verification, or a disclosure nobody read that becomes a compliance problem. So fintech UX design is judged at specific moments: the first transfer, the upload that gets rejected, the number someone reads before they confirm. We design those moments first and the rest of the product around them.

By finding the one step where people give up, because it's rarely the whole flow. Usually it's the document upload, a vague rejection, or a request that arrives with no reason attached. We say why each item is needed, show progress honestly, and design every rejection with a next action. For NDAX, a regulated Canadian exchange, that meant KYC built around FINTRAC requirements without reading like a form.

By remembering who they're leaving. Nobody moves a salary because a new app has more features. They move when it feels as safe as the bank they've used for a decade and clearer to use. That means a brand that reads as safe on first sight, a home screen with one obvious answer (how much do I have, what just happened), and a product structure that still holds when the next twenty features arrive.

When the same component gets rebuilt three times, or two products start to look like different companies. For most fintechs that's around Series A. A fintech design system also carries rules a generic one doesn't: how risk states look, where disclosures sit, how amounts are formatted. At Optio, one system serves admin portals, investor cap tables and financial reporting.

It needs a brand that does one extra job: making someone comfortable moving money before they've read a word. Fintech branding has to look safe without looking like the bank people are leaving. Too playful reads as unserious, too corporate reads as old. We start with who has to trust you first: an investor, a regulator, or a first-time user. Moto is a premium card that had to feel worth carrying before anyone applied.
